CHURCH’S HISTORY
It was the vision of Pastor Lucilda Franklyn in the early 1970‘s to win souls for the kingdom of God, and today we stand tall in the legacy of a thought that has now manifested into something far greater than any of us could ever imagine.
The community of Drapers was given a gift called New Testament Assembly Drapers, otherwise called Church on the Rock, in the year 1972. Throughout the years, there have been many changes and transitions: The first baptism was held in December at a nearby river with 11 souls being the first members to be baptized. To date, we have approximately 67 members. Additionally, the church started out as a board structure with dirt floors, located behind the current building under a guinep tree which was later upgraded to concrete—now, we have a large, beautiful structure that shows the magnitude of work done to improve the physical building. The church has also experienced major transitions in leadership, with each Pastor leaving their own indelible mark through physical and spiritual contributions.
During Pastor Shirley’s tenure, Church on the Rock became popularly known as the deliverance centre. People would come from near and far, even though in those times, electricity, transportation and the luxury of beautiful tiles and music were not readily available. The praises and tambourines could be heard from miles away.
As time progressed, the church only grew stronger and the services saw numeric expansion, and spiritual explosion. The Holy Spirit moved so evidently in the services, with signs and wonders to follow, that the church adopted the motto—“A people armed and dangerous with the anointing”.
As Matthew 5:14 declares, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.” This little light of ours continues to shine as we build on the rich history and foundation that was passed down, while securing the legacy for the future generation.
