New Testament Assembly Commodore
About Us
Commodore New Testament Assembly was birthed from the vision of Herbert N. Currie, a devoted servant of God residing in the United States. Moved by a desire to see the Gospel expand in Jamaica, he sent financial support to Sister Estoria Reid of Upper Fair Prospect to purchase land in Commodore, East Portland.
Sister Reid shared the vision with Bishop Peart, and soon after, building materials were acquired. With the help of Bishop Peart, Pastor Richards, and members from Port Antonio, the first church building was constructed in 1982. It was a humble structure made of zinc and wood with a concrete floor—but it marked the beginning of something much greater.
Pastor Richards was appointed to shepherd the congregation. Years later, Pastor Currie returned to Jamaica and took over pastoral leadership. After his passing, Pastor Richards resumed leadership and continued to guide the church faithfully.
Under his leadership—and with the support of Evangelist Lindsay, Missionary Donegan, Missionary Reid, Deacon Wilson, and committed members—the construction of a permanent concrete sanctuary began and was successfully completed.
As the church continued to grow, Pastor P. Donegan took up the mantle of leadership. Alongside a dedicated team including Evangelist Richards, Evangelist Afflick, Evangelist Thomas, Missionary Burges, Missionary Bryan, Deacon Thomas, Deacon Afflick, Treasurer D. Burke, and many faithful members, an extension of the church was launched and is still in progress today.
What began as a vision has now become a vibrant, growing community of faith. Commodore New Testament Assembly now stands as a two-story building, a testament to the faith, unity, and dedication of those who believed in God’s purpose for this ministry.
